about

u00f8 is the Unicode codepoint of ø, the slashed o: the symbol at the top of every page, set in the site's own pixel font rather than drawn as a picture. It is the handle of an artist working in textmode: ASCII, ANSI and the wider character set of code page 437, drawn cell by cell in an editor and published as plain text rather than as pictures of text. Pieces are dated by the year they were finished. The first one online is tape; the latest are overstrike and dither.

This site is a handful of HTML files written by hand and one stylesheet. No JavaScript, no images, no build step, no analytics, and nothing is fetched from another domain. Open the files from disk and they work.

Text is set in IBM Plex Mono, self-hosted as WOFF2 under the SIL Open Font License 1.1. The mark, the rules and every artwork are set in PxPlus IBM XGA-AI 12x20 by VileR, from The Ultimate Oldschool PC Font Pack, licensed under Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International. It is a bitmap font, a faithful recreation of the 12 by 20 pixel character cell of the IBM XGA adapter, so it is only ever drawn at whole multiples of that cell: 20 pixels for the works, 40 for the mark. The font file is unmodified and its licence text ships next to it in the fonts folder.
